TANZANIA

Visit the national website of the country of Tanzania here.

Tanzania is a stable and safe nation that has not been plagued by tribal wars or attacks against tourists like many other nations in Africa.  The people are warm and friendly to all visitors and like to think of themselves as the Switzerland of Africa.

However, the country is poor and many people live below the poverty line and they face many challenges.  Less than 30 percent of the population has drinkable water in their homes.  Most survive on subsistence farming.

One way of helping is to support one of the many water development projects like those driven by Rotary International.  Another way is to visit.  Tourism has become a major component of the local economy.

Weather and best times.

When is the best time to travel to the Serengeti on safari?  The answer is that there is not a bad time to visit the Serengeti.  The average temperature only varies between 78 and 82 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the year, and with the altitude in the Serengeti over 5000 feet, the humidity is typically low.  While it will often rain an hour or two a day in late March through mid May, and even less in October through early December, even those months are excellent for game viewing.  The migration of the 1.5 million wildebeests and 400,000 zebras occurs mostly in a circle and mostly within the confines of the Serengeti ecosystem.  As a result, our safaris are organized so that there is minimal driving to find large herds of animals.  Wherever there are large herds of animals, there are plenty of predators.
